Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Wishing you a season filled with comfort, joy, and laughter!

Oh Deer!

When we moved in 3 years ago, the family we bought our 50 year old house from told us there is a pack of deer that give birth to their babies in the back yard every year! We secretly cringed thinking that the dogs would certainly change that.

But our deer, being creatures of habit, stayed around. We have seen many Bambi's come into the world and then grow up as shaggy adolescent deer, some with small antlers growing.

Christmas morning a few bucks were on our driveway, and then that night they were in our front yard again when we drove up. The pack really stays together and there are about 12 deer in the family.

Taken from our kitchen window Christmas morning. They sure stop traffic and attract the tourists.

Baby Jesus

Nola got a Little People Nativity Set from Oma and Pops for Christmas and found baby Jesus on her own and said, "Jesus, can you please open the baby Jesus?" What a sweetie!
She actually played baby Jesus in 2006 when she was just 6 weeks old.

Nola No Nap

Sometimes instead of napping, Nola decides to sing at the top of her lungs. She’s perfectly fine staying in her crib singing for up to 3 hours just entertaining herself while she boycotts the nap. I caught it on video. Today her song of choice was twinkle twinkle little star. I think she called me a princess when I walked in. My best at translating is “o princess, momma that’s a princess.”

And just now as I'm posting this, I hear her saying "It's Stuck" over and over and getting louder. So I went in there to find this... I can't stop laughing. The No-Nap time is officially over.

First Haircut

Nola got her first haircut on Friday. Rockwell at birth had more hair than Nola did at one year, but now that she is two years old, we decided it needed a little trim. We almost cut Rockwell's hair too, but he looks more like a rock star with long hair.

She walked in with hat head and walked out with a new do.

Not so sure about this black cape, she kept saying "it's stuck."

All done, yea! So glad mom did not attempt to do it.

California Thanksgiving

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Our trip to California for Thanksgiving was a whirlwind, but so fun! Nola does not remember the last trip when we took so many different modes of transportation. She was thrilled by the new adventures. Besides the enormous amount of luggage and junk we had to bring, traveling was pretty smooth considering our full itinerary. We obviously didn't have Rockwell yet when we bought the tickets and planned the trip.

It started on Thanksgiving day with a car drive up to Denver airport parking lot, a shuttle ride to the actual airport, a train ride to the terminal, a plane ride to Sacramento, a shuttle to the rental car, a car ride to Aunt Gwen and Uncle John's for Thanksgiving dinner with the Richert side of the family, and a drive to Roseville to stay with Grandma Marg and Grandpa Dean. Yes, all of that on Thanksgiving day.

Friday, we drove through Modesto to visit the darling Bruce family then down to Fresno to stay three nights with my parents.

Monday morning we drove up to San Francisco and ate lunch at the Cliff House on Ocean Beach, the cliffs where Zack and I got engaged almost 8 years ago. We ran around on the beach for a while, then drove downtown to Union Square where our great hotel room was waiting. We visited the Macy's Santa, saw the lights of the Union Square tree and ice skating rink, and ate dinner at a great Italian restaurant in North Beach.

Tuesday morning the circus act began again as we took the BART to the SF airport. Quite a site to see with all our luggage in tow. We had such an enjoyable visit and the traveling was well worth it! Back home on Wednesday morning, the first thing Nola asked was "Uncle Ryan, where are you?"

Could her voice be any higher?
